She was born in 1844, in rural Mexico, in Sinaloa and was doomed from birth by its physical appearance to a life of dehumanization and denigration. Julia Pastrana was labeled "The most Ugly Woman on earth," "The Bear Woman," the "connection between mankind and the Orangutan," "the Apic Woman."
She grew up to just 4 foot, 5 "high and Pastrana's body was coated with hair with her hand palms and her foot's soils. Her nose and chin were big and her lips and gums were abnormally thick. That's why the Ape Woman's nickname.
While Pastrana had a rare congenital disorder known as the acromegaloid hypertrichosis syndrome, she had been stirring people's interest in the 19th century and displayed around the world for its amusement, while pseudo-Scientists of Victoria claimed to be a half human half-ape hybrid. No-one has seen more than the hair throughout her body, in spite of her gentle character, her singing and dancing talents, and her skills in multiple languages. Under her "hair," people did not see a man.
Pastrana worked in the Mexican state governor 's house until she was 20 years old as a maid and entertainer. She came in touch with M somehow. Rates were a showman from the US and became a freak show star traveling throughout the United States and Europe. It was immensely popular with Julia Pastrana. Not only the audience that tried to get entertainment, but the scientists and physicians that wanted to study it. She was often known as a half-animal, with many as an orangutan insulting her.
Julia was very friendly and respectful person who liked to fly, to cook and to sew. She was also always able to support the doctors perplexed by her appearance and underwent medical examinations. Pastrana was a curious man who learned three languages, including English.

In the 1850s, the manager of Pastrana, Theodore Lent, married in secret. Many people thought she liked him very much, so Lent married her out of fear that her most successful star would be lost because of Pastrana's popularity. In one press interview, she stated that, due to the low financial status of the candidates, she refused more than 20 marriage suggestions.
But yet only Lent, the man who arguably degraded her more than any other person, was married and probably loved. Julia and her son both died in 1860, after a baby kid was born. On her deathbed Julia's last words have been: "I'm ready to die. For myself, I know I was loved.
Lent sold the bodies of Julia and her son to a professor of Russian anatomy named Sokolov, who embalmed them and exhibited them publicly. She had been dehumanized in death as she was in childhood. When Lent discovered he did everything possible to regain control of the bodies, to show them. In glass cabinets throughout the world he exhibited the bodies of his wife and son.
Then he met the woman Marie Bartel, who was suffering from and resembling her in the same unusual condition as Julia. In that too, Lent searched for money. After he married the Bartel, he hid the embalmed corpses and renamed Bartel Zenora Pastrana. He came back to reveal the embalmed bodies after Bartel 's death.
Somebody stole Lent 's bodies and later in Norway they were disposed of. The police finally recovered in 1967 and kept them in storage at Oslo University until 2005. The body of Julia was carried back into Mexico then by Mexican artist Lauren Anderson Barbata. She said to the New York Times "I thought that it was important for Julia Pastrana and her important to reclaim her reputation and her place in world history and in the memory of the world."
