WAEC MIGHT HAVE THEIR MONOPOLY STRIPPED IF THEY CONTINUE TO BE INEFFICIENT – GES

The Deputy Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Adutwum, has challenged the prudence of the monopoly of WAEC.

This comes in the wake of leaks which have interfered in its operations of conducting exams in Ghana.

“If it would lead to inefficiency, we should not establish monopolies,” said Dr. Adutwum on Eyewitness News.

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) might have their monopoly stripped if they continue to be ineffective.

He hopes that the Council will make more of an attempt in the last two decades to plug leaks consistent.

“Why don’t they use means to end leakage forever in the 21st century? They’ll have to sit up, I believe, “announced the deputy minister.

He noticed, for example, that some schools set multiple research questions in different varieties in California, USA.

As a means to combat cheating and examination leaks, which has proven to be effective.

But, questions about the monopoly of the examination body have been raised and many strongly believe it’s a root cause of their inefficiency.

“You know what version you will get when you are a pupil and you wait for the questions to be leaked, even though they are leaked,” Dr Adutwum said.

WAEC might have their monopoly stripped if they continue to be ineffective.

Sadly, several papers on the current West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) leaked in advance of sittings.

While WAEC says that it investigates the leaks, calls have been made for the annulment of the papers affected.

Therefore, Parliament’s minority insisted on the fact that WAEC had lost its justice and honesty.

So, an independent test into the leaks has also been requested by several Civil Society Organizations.
