PRESSURE MOUNTS ON MAHAMA AS NDC MAN MAKES U-TURN TO ENDORSE INDEPENDENT CANDIDATES

    John Dramani Mahama, EX-PREZ, Ghana

In a little over 3 months Ghanaians will go to the poll to select their president and Members of Parliament. This will go down the historical annals of the nation because it is the first time since 1992 a past immediate President will contest an incumbent President. The incumbent President and leader of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo will be contested by former president John Dramani Mahama.

The economy and corruption will be in the spotlight come December 7 as the two leaders clash for the third time in polls. The major defining feature will be the comparative performance between the two leaders who are fighting to carry the whole affairs of the nation on their shoulders.

The NPP has officially launched their manifesto ahead of the poll while Ghanaians are still anticipating for the launch of the opposition NDC's own manifesto. One of the most talked about issues ahead of the poll is the calls for infrastructure debate by President Mahama which has been 'rubbished' and described as 'pointless' and 'unnecessary' by the NPP.

Dr. Sekou Nkrumah has set the NDC camp on fire with a post on his Facebook wall to declare his support for independent Presidential candidates in the impending elections. The PhD holder is the last son of Ghana's first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and was appointed to serve as the boss of the National Youth Council (NYA) under the erstwhile Atta Mills-led NDC.

He was sacked from his role as the boss of NYA in 2010 which, he described as unfair in an interview. In the said interview he said, "I was fired in 2010 almost a year later. The circumstances were nothing short of bizarre. Exactly 3 days after a publication of an interview I granted AfricaWatch magazine I was fired."

Dr. Sekou who is obviously in pain has been an avid critic of the NDC party and candidature of John Mahama after his dismissal in 2010. He was one of the Ghanaians who raised doubts about the capabilities of NDC's female running mate, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.

He has expressed his worries over the poor management by the two major parties - NDC and NPP which have dominated the electoral scene since 1992 when the country re-subscribed to multiparty democracy. He has said that he is no longer supporting the main opposition party(NDC) because the party in power is performing abysmal and have all failed to learn lessons.View pictures in App save up to 80% data.

He has also urged all Ghanaians to have a change of mind concerning the concentration of power between the two parties. He is advocating for massive support for the other independent Presidential candidates.

He composed, "I am no longer interested in supporting the main opposition party just because the party in power is not doing well! In the past we have had those changes and they proved useless! It is time we think differently, I am therefore supporting all independent candidates (both presidential and parliamentary)! This new movement should be embraced by every Ghanaian who is sick and tired of the NDC and NPP monopoly!"

Now, this is a big blow for the opposition NDC because the party cannot continue to loose members in this crucial times when it has about 100 days to the elections.
