FIRE RAVAGES 7 SHOPS IN KOFORIDUA MARKET CENTRE (PHOTOS )
Ravaging fire nearly razed down the Juaben Serwaa Market in Koforidua the Eastern Regional Capital in the early hours of today but by the timely intervention of people who raised alarm after detecting a thick smoke emanating from the market, which attracted volunteers to extinguish the fire until the arrival of Fire Service personnel.
The incident happened Wednesday morning. About 7 shops in the market have been burnt.
Properties worth thousands of cedis destroyed
It took firefighters about 30 minutes to bring the ravaging fire under control.
The Juaben Serwaa Market is the second-largest and populated market center in the New Juaben South Municipality.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
Scores of market women have rushed to the scene to secure and salvage their properties.
Officials of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) have also arrived at the scene to undertake assessment.
