ONE UBER CAR TO EACH DELEGATE FOR VOTE SAGA : CHRAJ MUST PROBE NPP TEMA ASPIRANT

An aspiring New Patrotic Party (NPP) parlimentary candidate in the Tema Central Constituecy of the Greater Accra Region, Mr. Yves Hanson-Nortey has landed himself in a big trouble for which scores of concerned Ghanaians have launched a strong verbal attack on him.

The attack meted to Mr Hanson-Nortey by the general public and political activists followed his recent pronouncement by way of promising to doll out one car each to every delegate of the NPP in Tema Central Constituecy.

The move which has been dubbed one delegate, one uber is expected to be run as a work pay and own it.

Articulating the reasons for the move, the aspirant disclosed that it is a way of empowering NPP polling station executives with jobs.

“It’s a work pay and own programme designed to empower our polling station executives. It would also serve as a source of income for party activities”.

“Just like any work and pay programme for taxis. We are only using the ride hailing Apps because the revenue can be traced unlike the regular taxis.”

But a few days before he made the vote buying promise, many well-wishimg Ghanains and anti-NPP groups have described his promise as a complete vote buying political gimmick and called on the Commission of Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to officially investigate the NPP aspiring candidate.

This move contain in the intended petition to be filled to the Commission by NDC-affiliated groups in Tema name (withheld for now).

The petitioners stated that Mr Hanson-Nortey
has no personal means of genuinely funding this transaction.

They added that that his action violates article 286 of the 1992 Constitution and the provisions of the Public Office Holders (Declaration Of Assets and Disqualification) Act, 1998 (ACT 550) which underscores the need for Public Officers to demonstrate the highest degree of integrity, sincerity and candor in their conduct.

Meanwhile, some of the angered political activists in Tema interviewed have also raised an eyebrow over the move by Mr Hanson-Nortey to doll out UBER car to each delegate in the constituecy.

According to one of the activists named Emmanuel Kofi Asare Yeboah, Tema Central Constituecy has an average of 500 delegates, adding that “If one Uber should cost approximately GH¢25,000, then calculate GH¢ 25,000 by 500. Then we are looking at GH¢12.5 million.”

He asked that “How do you explain this to the 60,000 voters in the constituency after the primaries? Is this not going to be a weapon for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) against the NPP?We need to be mindful of Profligate Campaigns. 2008 on my mind”

He went on to state that “If this was the NDC am not sure we will have been putting such a spirited defense like we are doing,it will have been a forgone conclusion even if the person also denies.let’s do an equitable analysis of the issues devoid of passions and emotions

According to him, the National Chairman of the NPP, Mr Freddie Blay denied from the initial allegations of him buying buses for delegates, later the narrative changed “l am sure you remember that.”

He stressed that “I will be disappointed if indeed he wants to buy Uber for each delegates which is highly impossican’t
How do you defend this to the masses and media in this era of corruption perception?
You would end up being at the offensive till the primaries are over.”

“We must Learn how to approach people for thier votes and stop those NDC gimmickry that sent them to opposition,” he warned.
