    WIFE OF EX-ENGLAND STAR KEVIN PHILLIPS RELEASED AFTER BEING HELD FOR 'ATTEMPTED MURDER '

    Julie Phillips, partner of ex-Three Lions striker Kevin Phillips, was reportedly arrested following the knife attack in Lichfield, Staffordshire, but was released without charge.

    The wife of a former England international footballer was reportedly arrested following a knife attack which left a young man in a critical condition.

    Julie Phillips, partner of ex-striker Kevin Phillips, spent two nights at a police station following the incident on Saturday before being released without charge, it is claimed.

    Mrs Phillips, 49, was said to have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder alongside two other suspects.

    The mum-of-four told the MailOnline: "Yes, I was arrested but I have been released. I was a witness.

    "I can't say any more because of legal reasons."

    A man, named locally as 20-year-old Aigars Lipentis, was found by paramedics in a criticial condition at the property in Lichfield, Staffordshire, after trouble broke out, according to The Sun.

    Kevin has also spoken about the incident.

    The former Sunderland, Southampton and Aston Villa striker, who won eight England caps, stated she was taking beers to a house.

    “Julie was a witness to the incident and she was released without charge," he said.

    “As you can imagine, she was very traumatised.

    “But as regards to any other suggestions, they are complete nonsense.”


    In a statement after the stabbing in Lichfield, Staffordshire, police said: "Three people have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after police were called to reports of an altercation in Lichfield last night.

    "Officers attended a property in Reynolds Close shortly before 11.30pm on Saturday 2 May after receiving a call from colleagues at West Midlands Ambulance Service reporting a man had been stabbed.

    A 20-year-old man was taken to hospital by paramedics where he remains in a critical condition.

    "Two men – aged 20 and from Lichfield – remain in police custody alongside a 49-year-old woman from Rugeley."

    In a later statement the force said Nathan Michaels, 19, has been charged with wounding with intent and possession of a bladed article.

    The force said: "Three people – originally arrested on suspicion of attempted murder – have all been released with no further action."
