ARSENE WENGER TIPS ENGLISH YOUNGSTER TO OVERTAKE LIONEL MESSI AND CRISTIANO RONALDO

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes England could produce football's next superstar to take over from Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo - but Kylian Mbappe is the front-runner.

Arsene Wenger has always had an eye for talent.

And he believes an English youngster could emerge as the next big star to succeed Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo, 35, and Messi, 32, have spent over a decade as the dominant forces in the game.

Former Arsenal boss Wenger admits Kylian Mbappe and Paris Saint-Germain team-mate Neymar are the two obvious contenders to fill the void when they drop off.

But he believes English football has all the right pieces in place to produce the next big superstar in the game having been impressed by Gareth Southgate's work with the national team.

Lionel Messi… we’ve never seen players like that who can absolutely be creative in any tight situation," Wenger told talkSPORT.

These players are now getting to an end – Ronaldo and Messi.

It’s now about the next generation and the next generation may be French. At the moment, the leader could be Mbappe. Of course Neymar, we know.

But whilst bullish about the hopes of England's next generation of talent, Wenger admitted he still gets concerned watching his former club, Arsenal.

“I worry about the club still a lot and I watch all of the games,” he told talkSPORT .

“I believe there is a culture in the way to play football at Arsenal that I want to be respected, and I hope Mikel can get that back.”
